Govt to fall soon? Let ‘delirious’ Hadi keep ranting, Anwar says

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim scoffs at PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s prediction that the current government led by the former would fall soon.

“It’s okay, let him (Hadi) plan and rant (mengigau),” he told reporters after Friday prayers at the Universiti Putra Malaysia Mosque, Serdang, Selangor today.

Anwar was asked to comment on Hadi’s statement during the “Dialog Ulama Negarawan: Mendepani Cabaran Globalisasi Media Masa” event organised by the Yayasan Permata Ummah in Kuala Lumpur on March 1.

“People ask when this will happen, this is a prediction. InsyaAllah, (it will happen) in the near future,” Hadi was reported as saying, without mentioning what his prediction was based on or if Perikatan Nasional (PN) was planning anything.

That remark came a day after Hadi said the opposition should not be blamed if the Pakatan Harapan-led administration collapsed again.

“If it falls again, don’t blame us. It’s not that the ‘roof was intentionally damaged’, but the ‘roof is leaking’, the ‘door is open’ and the ‘walls are cracked’,” Hadi said while debating in the Dewan Rakyat.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang

The Marang MP had previously admitted that he was the individual who initiated the move to topple the previous Harapan administration headed by Dr Mahathir Mohamad in 2020, just 22 months after they came into power.

Hadi’s prediction has been condemned by several Harapan leaders, including Amanah vice-president Mahfuz Omar, who described it as contradicting the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s decree for political stability.

Mahfuz also said the PAS president’s remarks were undermining the country’s economic recovery process.

PKR’s Kota Anggerik assemblyperson Najwan Halimi also said Hadi had yet to recover from “political depression” and cannot accept reality. - Mkini
