Hadi proves PN only cares about 'backdoor' power grab, claims Loke

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s statement about the government falling soon shows that the Perikatan Nasional (PN) leadership only thinks about snatching power through the “backdoor”, claimed Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

Loke urged PN to respect the democratic process of forming the government after the 15th general election (GE15).

“I feel Hadi’s statement is very irresponsible. This shows that the PN leadership has no other job other than planning every day to wrest power and the government, and also to obtain (power) through the backdoor.

“They should respect the process that was carried out after GE15 whereby the formation of the government went through a thorough process, which has also been decreed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” Loke (above) told reporters at the AirAsia headquarters in Sepang today.

He added that this also shows PN has no interest in the rakyat’s well-being nor in seeing a more prosperous country.

“It only cares about political power,” he said.

Loke was referring to the Marang MP recently predicting the imminent collapse of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s administration.

Hadi has since defended his remarks, saying that it is normal for there to be a change in government.

The responsible thing for PN to do would be to play its role as a constructive opposition in Parliament, Loke said, especially through the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

“But no, every day they (PN leaders) talk about snatching power or toppling this government which has just reached 100 days.

“Even after we have achieved political stability, they want to play up politics and revive political instability,” he added.

The DAP lawmaker cited Amazon’s recent announcement about investing in Malaysia, saying this is due to the political stability in the country now.

Loke also accused Hadi of going against the advice of the Agong, who decreed that he wants to see political stability and a united government.

Internal dissatisfaction

The prime minister has even tabled a confidence vote in Parliament, which has proven that he has a two-thirds majority.

“In fact, at the time, the opposition didn’t oppose (in the vote), it didn't even ask for a bloc vote,” Loke said.

On PN’s accusation that some in the government are dissatisfied with the situation, Loke said there was plenty of internal dissatisfaction during PN’s rule.

“I know PN wants to exploit this opportunity because there were one or two speeches by government MPs which may be seen as opposing (the government), but in the Dewan Rakyat, there is freedom of speech… this is normal.

“This does not mean the government is about to splinter,” he added.

On the contrary, Loke said, the government is working well together in the cabinet, without any arguments and only focusing on resolving issues.

He also pointed out that there is a unity government secretariat to handle whatever issues that may crop up.

“For me, the unity government today is still stable and strong and the top leaders of every party of the coalition have given their utmost cooperation to make the government’s agenda succeed.

“I am confident that none of its (PN's) efforts can break this unity government,” Loke said.
