PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s cryptic message that the federal government would collapse soon is dangerous as it goes against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's decree.
According to Amanah vice-president Mahfuz Omar, Hadi's (above) statement also risked creating political instability, which would affect the country.
"The statement had really gone against the call made by Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Council of Rulers who want political stability in the country.
"Hadi's remark can bring negative impacts to the country's economy, which is in its recovery process," he said when met by Malaysiakini in Kota Bharu today.
The former Pokok Sena MP was commenting on Hadi's remark, where the PAS leader shared his prediction during a dialogue organised by a book publisher, Yayasan Permata Ummah, in Kuala Lumpur two days ago.
However, Hadi's remark falls short of details. He did not specify whether the cause of the collapse would come from within or without.
"People ask me when it will happen. That is my prediction. God willing, (it will) happen soon," Hadi was reported as saying.
On that note, Mahfuz claimed Hadi made the statement because he only cared about power and wanted to take over the government.
He also believed that the Marang MP's remark had to do with the upcoming elections in six states, and the opposition was trying to “heat up” the situation.
"But such remarks are sabotaging the country's economy.
"It can spook investors coming to Malaysia as they may feel there is no political stability in this country," he said.
Mahfuz, a former PAS vice-president, said authorities should probe Hadi over the statement.
"To me, political sabotage is normal. But this remark has elements which can sabotage the economy and touches on security.
“I mean, if our economy goes down because investors are not confident, then the ones who lose out are the rakyat.
"I hope the authorities will take action because it can affect the country's economy," Mahfuz added. - Mkini
