Johor flood victims can apply for 4 categories of aid - minister

Eligible flood victims in Johor can apply for four categories of assistance from the National Disaster Trust Fund (KWABN) which is coordinated by the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma).

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah Sarawak Affairs and Special Functions) Armizan Mohd Ali said the categories include cash aid (Bantuan Wang Ihsan), bereavement aid, funds to purchase necessities, and aid for minor home repairs.

He said victims can apply for the Bantuan Wang Ihsan (BWI) cash aid which is given to each affected household amounting to RM1,000 and bereavement aid of RM10,000 for each family member who died.

“Two other assistance are for the purchase of basic necessities of up to RM2,500 and minor home repairs aid amounting to RM5,000.

“Although flooding still persists in several districts of Johor, government agencies at the district level are actively identifying the household heads involved and we have started to disburse BWI to eligible victims who are expected to receive the payment by early April.”

He said this after visiting flood victims at the temporary relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Telok in Batu Pahat today.

Armizan said the aid distribution process and the list of aid recipients who were evacuated to relief centres will be coordinated by the Department of Social Welfare (JKM) and the state and district Disaster Operations Control Centre (PKOB).

Meanwhile, he said for flood victims who did not seek shelter at relief centres, their names will be gathered by the heads of their respective communities and must be confirmed by the chairperson of the District Disaster Management Committee (JPBD) before the application is sent to the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) for distribution of disaster relief aid.

“I understand that the process of (verifying and) handing over aid in Johor has started even though the flood disaster has not completely ended.

“We expect the Johor state government and district officials to ensure that BWI can be channelled as soon as possible,” he said.
