Kelantan has identified as many as 15 locations in the state that are suitable to be used for building permanent evacuation centres to accommodate flood victims in the districts involved.
State Welfare, Family Development and Women's Committee chairperson Mumtaz Md Nawi said of the total, 12 locations involve state government land while the other three require land acquisition.
"The 12 locations involving state government land are Kompleks Kebajikan Madinah As Salam, Tunjong and Kampung Ketereh in Kota Bharu, Kampung Pengkalan Nangka (Tumpat), Kampung Kelapa Wangi (Pasir Mas), Pulai Chondong (Machang), Jedok, Kampung Bendang Besar and Ulu Kusial, Kampung Sokor (Tanah Merah).
"Apart from these locations, the others are Kampung Pahi and Kemubu (Kuala Krai), Tapak Pasar Tani Kampung Ayer Lanas (Jeli) and Kampung Ketil and Kampung Limau Kasturi, Bertam (Gua Musang)," Mumtaz said.
She said this in reply to a question from Mohd Rodzi Ja'afar (PAS-Gaal) at the Kelantan state assembly in Kota Darulnaim, today.
Mumtaz said the three locations that need land acquisition are in the Pasir Puteh district, namely Padang Pak Amat, Cherang Ruku and Changgai.
"A visit was held with the National Disaster Management Agency for the basic proposal to build the first three permanent evacuation centres which are at Kompleks Kebajikan Madinah As Salam in Kota Bharu, Kampung Pengkalan Nangka, Tumpat and Kampung Kelapa Wangi, Pasir Mas," she said.
