We need not visit Hollywood to see Malaysians give the best performance of their lives. We are blessed with the Dewan Rakyat and star performers from PAS who never fail to entertain and keep us amused.
MPs from PAS cannot dazzle us with their brilliance, and so, they baffle us with their bull. For some inexplicable reason, LGBTs and PAS are like red flags to bulls.
On March 14, Pengkalan Chepa MP Ahmad Marzuk Shaary gave a cock-and-bull story about his analysis of the LGBT community.
He said that they led a perverted lifestyle and behaved worse than animals. Marzuk said, “Bulls don't marry bulls, cows don't marry cows.”
He forgot to mention another Malaysian phenomenon. Cows which live in luxury condominiums.
PAS members are bull-headed about taking over Malaysia and making it an Islamic nation overseen by Shariah and hudud laws.
Despite their divisive sermons, they were unchallenged by the guardians of Islam and the authorities for several decades. Today, the PAS ulama are not afraid to flex their muscles, and openly defy the monarchy.
They have always looked upon events in Iran and the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini as prophetic.
PAS believes that everyone in Islam is equal. In their world, the ulama class are on an equal footing with royalty. Women are not included in PAS' vocabulary.
The party still cannot afford a communications director who can brief their MPs about LGBTs or other worldly matters. Marzuk's confused analysis of LGBTs is as clumsy as a bull in a China shop.
When debating the national unity index, Marzuk said that “bulls don't marry bulls, and cows don't marry cows”.
But he has failed to research the animal kingdom. Homosexuality is not just the preserve of homo sapiens.
Nor has Marzuk lived on a farm. If he had, he would have observed that cows can, and do mount other cows in a process known as "bulling". This behaviour is entirely hormone driven.
Perhaps, not many farmers own several heads of cattle in their herd, and they can only afford just one cow or bull.
Over a decade ago, the husband of a certain former Wanita Umno leader had misappropriated taxpayers' money meant for cattle farmers. What is the progress of the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) case? The rakyat's money is the politicians' cash cow.
Back to Marzuk, the PAS leader said that “normal people with the right mindset” will not support the LGBT group, and that members of this community are not human.
Respect LGBT community
His comparison of the LGBT with animals is very un-Islamic. Who gave him the right to treat LGBTs as lesser beings? They are God's creatures too. They are also respected citizens of Malaysia.
Once a PAS MP is given the microphone, he will talk, and talk until the cows come home, and bore you with more bull.
Last week, the whole Dewan Rakyat became Marzuk's captive audience. Unless and until his ramblings are cut short by the speaker, the PAS MP will milk it for all it is worth.
He reminded his fellow MPs that the previous PN government had formed a task force to “solve the issue”. He said, "I'm sure the MPs here don't agree with this LGBT lifestyle. That's why I want to address it here so that this matter, which can affect the unity index, can be tackled."
Is he not aware that the real issue is people like him, and his conservative PAS peers? The problem is not the LGBT community.
How did Marzuk attempt to resolve the LGBT issue when he was the deputy Religious Affairs minister in the former PN administration?
Did he propose running more boot camps, increased beatings and shaming sessions in public? Were there more religious indoctrination classes, and donning of the Arab robes? If only it were as simple to erase one's LGBT tendencies as easy as it is to remove a garment from one's body.
For years, the transgender community have expressed fears about being attacked by religious vigilantes who forcibly cut their hair, taunt them in public and sexually abuse them.
Five decades ago, transgender people were able to lead relatively normal lives, unlike today where they have become easy targets of religious bigots. Increased Islamic lessons have not made Malays more compassionate. Instead, they have become more intolerant.
So, why did Marzuk suddenly mention Pompeii? The clue lies in his remarks about inviting God's wrath and warning Malaysians not to live a “perverse life”. Here again, we see the primitive PAS mind at work.
Pompeii is the only live volcano on mainland Europe, but is Marzuk aware that Malaysia is not even located on the Pacific Ring of Fire? So did God punish the people of Syria and Turkiye with a devastating earthquake? What did they do to upset Him?
Before Marzuk lectures us on marriage, bulls and cows, why doesn't he clean up his own backyard first? Drug addiction and sexual abuse, including of the deviant kind, are rampant in Kelantan.
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and his wannabe politicians-cum-clerics are no sacred cows. They are dangerous. They sow discord in Malaysia.
And Anwar Ibrahim's government must seize the bull by the horns and corral them before it is too late. No point crying over spilt milk when the damage is irreversible. - Mkini
