PUTRAJAYA: Bersatu information chief Razali Idris says he expects party president Muhyiddin Yassin to be arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today.
“Muhyiddin has been told to go to the MACC’s headquarters, and we expect him to be arrested (today) and charged in court tomorrow,” Razali told reporters gathered outside the MACC headquarters here.
“We consider this inhumane as the party is having its elections tomorrow, and Parliament is also in session.”
Razali said the action taken by MACC against the former prime minister seemed to be carried out just to “destroy Perikatan Nasional (PN) and prevent Bersatu from contesting in the six state elections”.
Muhyiddin, who is PN chairman, is expected to arrive at the MACC headquarters soon ahead of a 11am meeting with the anti-graft agency.
Other Bersatu leaders present outside the MACC headquarters were deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu and Supreme Council member Azmin Ali.
Razali said he expected “all PN MPs” to arrive at the MACC headquarters in a show of support for Muhyiddin.
Yesterday, Muhyiddin confirmed that he had been summoned by the MACC over projects awarded under Jana Wibawa, a Covid-19 stimulus initiative to help Bumiputera contractors which was introduced in November 2020 when he was prime minister.
Last month, MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said investigation papers involving Muhyiddin, who is also the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman, had yet to be handed over to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC). - FMT
