PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim should specify why security forces have been ordered to be on alert for possible unrest from parties playing up racial and religious sentiments, said Putra president Ibrahim Ali.
He urged Anwar to give a clear picture of who these troublemakers were and to “clearly reveal who he meant when talking about security being threatened”.
Anwar had said earlier today that “certain people who are desperate or who feel challenged” will play up racial and religious sentiments to their advantage, while the police later said stern action would be taken against those who make racially-charged statements that could threaten the country’s harmony.
The statements come in the wake of a police investigation into blogger Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard, for linking a youth and sports ministry organisation to Christian evangelism.
In the Dewan Rakyat yesterday, an MP from PAS, Ahmad Yunus Hairi, urged the government not to build non-Muslim houses of worship in the same vicinity as mosques due to “sensitivities”. - FMT
