Nearly 35,000 flood victims at relief centres in 5 states



The number of flood victims sheltering in relief centres has increased overnight with a total of 34,851 evacuees in five states.

According to the Info Bencana website, Johor was still the worst hit. As of 8.35am today, the state had 31,709 evacuees, up 11.31 percent compared to 12 hours ago.

Kluang is the most affected followed by Kota Tinggi, Johor Bahru and Pontian. Flooding has also hit Muar, Mersing, Kulai, Tangkak and Batu Pahat.

In Pahang, there were 1,935 evacuees, mostly in Rompin and Maran as of 7.47am.

Other affected areas are Pekan, Jerantut, Raub and Bera.

Over in Negeri Sembilan, there were 1,066 evacuees of which the majority were from Tampin. Jempol was also affected.

Yesterday saw relief centres in Kuala Pilah being closed after flood waters receded.

In Malacca, there were 98 evacuees as of 8.06am, mostly located in Jasin.

The situation in Sarawak appeared to be abating as there were only 43 evacuees being housed as of 10.40pm yesterday. - Mkini
