KUALA LUMPUR: Temporary chaos erupted in Parliament after Mohd Sany Hamzan (PH-Hulu Langat) accused some religious school (Kafa) teachers of attempting to influence pupils' political views in the last general election.
"They were 'playing politics' at school and even tried to influence pupils. They also mentioned things that should not be said.
"I hope that the (Education) Ministry will take immediate action," Mohd Sany said when interjecting the wrapping-up speech of Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar for the Budget 2023 on Monday (March 13).
Several Opposition MPs immediately stood up to express their dissatisfaction, asking Mohd Sany to withdraw his statement.
Datuk Ahmad Marzuk Shaary (PN-Pengkalan Chepa) said that Mohd Sany's claims had defamed Kafa teachers across the country.
Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim (PN-Arau) then asked Mohd Sani to withdraw his remarks.
"The Kafa teachers are respected members of the community. Selangor voters, please do not support this kind of leader," he said.
Mohd Sany claimed that he was not making false accusations.
"I did not say all, I said only some," he added, as more shouting continued between him and Shahidan.
Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor then asked all parties to calm down.
"YB Arau, YB Hulu Langat, if you make noise one more time, I have to eject both of you," he said.
He then asked Mohd Na'im to proceed with his wrap-up. - Star
