Sungai Pelek assemblyperson Ronnie Liu has urged former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to drop his plan of revitalising his career through uniting Malay-only political forces.
This is in response to Mahathir’s call to Malays to support his “Proclamasi Orang Melayu” programme at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur at 3pm tomorrow.
“Dear Mahathir, you would not have resigned as prime minister twice if you really love our Malay brothers and sisters.
“You have lost all your credibility as a Malay leader when you failed to defend your Langkawi seat, finishing fourth.
“You even lost your deposit just like every other Pejuang candidate in GE15,” Liu (above, left) said in a statement.
Mahathir recently quit Pejuang to join Putra, the fourth Malay rights party of his career.
Both Pejuang and Putra have been said to be seeking collaboration with Bersatu and PAS in the Perikatan Nasional coalition, although Putra leaders denied it recently.
Leave it to Anwar
Liu urged Mahathir to stay out of politics and allow Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to govern all Malaysians.
“Anwar, in his first 100 days in office has proven to all Malaysians that he has the ability to bring the country out of the quagmire.
“He is on the right track to bring up our economy and contain inflation.
“He has shown the courage and determination to wipe out corruption, taking stern actions against top corruptors,” he said.
The DAP lawmaker added that Anwar has also united political leaders from both East and West Malaysia bringing much-needed political stability.
Every right-minded Malaysian, Liu said, would like to see Anwar succeed, but Mahathir seemed to be doing the opposite.
“If you (Mahathir) insist on proceeding with your plans and disrupt peace, national unity and racial harmony.
“Of bringing down the unity government endorsed by the king and the Council of Malay Rulers, Malaysians will not forgive you,” Liu added. - Mkini
