PN gathering tonight in solidarity with Muhyiddin

Perikatan Nasional is set to hold a series of events in solidarity with its chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin, who is expected to be charged in court tomorrow.

The events will kick off with a “solat hajat (prayer of need) for the country’s security and in solidarity against tyranny” at PAS' tarbiyah (development) centre at Taman Melewar in Gombak, from 6.30pm onwards today.

Muhyiddin, who is still recording his statement at MACC, is expected to join the prayer if he is released from MACC later.

According to an invite circulating on social media, a ceramah by PN leaders will follow the prayer session.

Similar prayer sessions are expected to be held simultaneously at the state level.

It is also learnt that the Bersatu delegates assembly, which was scheduled to be held tomorrow morning will be delayed to the afternoon to allow Bersatu delegates and leaders to go to the court complex to show their support for Muhyiddin.

On Saturday night, PN will hold a public ceramah also in Taman Melewar.

Facing multiple charges

An MACC source told Malaysiakini earlier that Muhyiddin will face multiple criminal charges under several provisions of the MACC Act, tomorrow.

However, it is still unknown if the Pagoh MP will be detained overnight after questioning today.

MACC chief Azam Baki has reportedly confirmed that Muhyiddin will be charged tomorrow but refused to elaborate.

The Bersatu president appeared before MACC investigators on Feb 16, where they recorded his statement pertaining to the probe into two of the party’s bank accounts, which have been frozen.

MACC had frozen the bank accounts to facilitate investigations under the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act. The two accounts reportedly contained about RM40 million.

If Muhyiddin is charged, it would be the latest in a series of charges laid against Bersatu leaders since mid-February.

On Feb 21, former information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan was charged at the Kuala Lumpur High Court with soliciting bribes of an unspecified amount and slapped with another charge of receiving RM6.96 million in bribes in 2022.

Several charges were also laid against Segambut Bersatu deputy chief Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad.

According to the MACC, these charges were related to the Jana Wibawa scheme - a stimulus project by the then-Muhyiddin administration as part of the Covid-19 pandemic relief efforts. - Mkini
