Reveal all political appointments, MP urges unity govt

Putrajaya MP Radzi Jidin’s (left) call comes a day after news of former Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki being made Mara chairman.

KUALA LUMPUR: Anwar Ibrahim’s unity government should reveal all political appointments that it has made to date, Putrajaya MP Radzi Jidin told the Dewan Rakyat today.

“List out the political appointments by the new government for the top positions and board of directors of all government-linked companies and statutory bodies,” he said during the committee stage debate on the 2023 budget.

He said the list should include political appointments for institutions such as Mara, Felda, Felcra as well as appointments to public universities.

Anwar’s government has previously said its programme of institutional reforms involved the restructuring of government companies and subsidiaries.

Radzi’s call comes a day after Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed that former Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki had been appointed the new chairman of Mara from March 10.

Asyraf takes over from former Beaufort MP Azizah Dun of Sabah Bersatu, who held the post for the past three years.

‘Reveal state of national debt’

Radzi, who is Bersatu vice-president, also asked the finance ministry to reveal the capital injections to be made under the 2023 budget for government-owned special purpose vehicles and the reasons for them.

He also asked the government to reveal the balance of the national debt as well as new debts acquired for every year from 2000 until 2023.

“The purpose of this is to give us all a big picture on the circumstances that led to the accumulated debt that we have today,” he said.

He also asked the government if it had plans to restructure the repayment of any of its debt, given the country’s financial standing and impending economic downturn.

In January, Anwar, who is also finance minister, said the national debt, including liabilities, has hit RM1.5 trillion. - FMT
