KUALA LUMPUR: Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL), the busiest and largest government hospital, will be allocated RM1 million to improve its equipment and services, said health minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa.

She said the amount was insufficient for the hospital, which accommodates about 50,000 patients at its wards each year.

“We’re approving RM1 million first for the hospital’s asset procurement and inventory,” she said. The allocation will be increased from time to time based on the hospital’s needs.

She also said the government will provide a special allocation for HKL to digitise its patients’ records.

HKL director Dr Rohana Johan said the hospital handles more than 16,000 patient records manually every day, and digitising these records will help ensure better management of these records.

HKL, which Zaliha described as the major public healthcare hub for Klang Valley residents, celebrates its 153rd anniversary this year.

Zaliha and Rohana were speaking to the media during the launch of a coffee table book at HKL detailing the staff’s experience in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Zaliha said the health ministry has asked transport minister Loke Siew Fook to approve a shuttle bus between HKL and the newly built MRT station nearby.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim officially launched the Putrajaya MRT line, the country’s second MRT line yesterday. The line, which spans 57.7km and has 36 stations, is expected to serve 104,000 commuters a day. - FMT
