Second report lodged against Muhyiddin over persecution claim

A second police report has been lodged against Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin for claiming that his corruption charges were a result of the government misusing enforcement agencies to carry out political persecution.

The report was lodged at the Cheras police headquarters this afternoon by Federal Territories PKR division head Azman Abidin, who is also the political secretary to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

“We take this (Muhyiddin’s claim against Anwar) seriously. Muhyiddin should have let the court decide whether or not he is guilty.

“He cannot accuse the prime minister of cases he has been charged with,” Azman told reporters after lodging the report today.

This is the second police report lodged against the former prime minister so far.

Yesterday, Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, who is Anwar’s political secretary at the Finance Ministry, lodged a report in Putrajaya, saying the remarks uttered by Muhyiddin after he was charged with corruption last Friday were slanderous and insulting.

The Pagoh MP claimed trial for four counts of abuse of power and two money laundering charges involving RM232.5 million.

Muhyiddin was slapped with another count of money laundering involving RM5 million linked to the Jana Wibawa programme yesterday.

Elaborating, Azman said Muhyiddin’s remarks were meant to divert public attention from his cases.

“His intention is to divert the spotlight and to beg for sympathy from the public to make it seem like he has been persecuted.”
