SPM rescheduled to March 16 for students affected by floods

Education minister Fadhlina Sidek is hoping the weather will improve so that there will be no more rescheduling of the SPM examination.

KUANTAN: Form 5 students affected by the floods in several parts of the country will sit for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination on March 16, education minister Fadhlina Sidek said.

She said 450 candidates from Johor, 79 from Pahang and four from Sarawak were initially scheduled to sit for the economics, science, physics and home science papers on March 1 and 2, Bernama reported.

“We will begin (the SPM papers for them) on March 16, but we will also make other considerations, especially in terms of logistics preparations and related matters.

“We are hoping the weather will improve so that there will not be more rescheduling,” she was quoted as saying.

Fadhlina said 17 schools in Johor and two in Pahang had been affected by floods.

She said her ministry was now focusing on “disaster-proof” designs for schools in areas constantly struck by floods.

On a separate matter, Fadhlina said her ministry was implementing several measures to overcome the shortage of teachers, especially in Sarawak, before the new school session begins this month, including the transfer of teachers. - FMT
