Folks this will be the first series of my new column called The Madani Clampdown (a slight change from the earlier suggested "Clampdown on Dissent").
The first one here is taken from Hussein Hamid who lives in Australia. Hussein went to the MCKK and he was a classmate of you know who. So he knows Mr Madani very well.
Besides myself a few other people have noticed either an uptick or a no change from before in the clampdowns against dissent. Thi include Hussein Hamid.
Dissent meaning what is construed as dissent by those wielding power. Anyone who is a writer, anyone who makes videos (including teenagers), anyone who makes an online movie, anyone who posts something on Twitter, Instagram, Telegram, Facebook can all be deemed as "dissenters" deserving further police investigation. Dissenting from what? I am at a loss too. But they get investigated, n'theless. That is the common denominator - they get investigated by the police. Step 1.
Perhaps realising the increasingly empty talks about reformasi (which I have known all along, throughout 25 years) you have writers and observers like Hussein Hamid and others also giving clear warnings against these clampdowns.
Without further ado here is Hussein Hamid : Please click on the link to read the brief but power packed article. I have some snippets here:
do not use draconian laws to unfairly silence opposition, any opposition
just because you consider them a threat to your political power!
do not make our nation a state where right to free speech is curtailed
Do not make Malaysia a state where one can no longer criticize our leaders
Let not those in power silence dissent and opposition by using Sosma
or draconian laws, enactments to silence anyone who does not agree with you
The powers that be asked to arrest Azmin Ali for sedition. Why?
Have they forgotten Azmin beseeching supporters to break Sungai Buloh (jail)?
Listen up guys...and think.
We are living in a democracy.
We must accept free speech and protest is the right of every Malaysian
- be they supporters of PH or supporters of the opposition.
Do not allow these rights to be taken away from you
by any govt that wants to curtail all dissent and opposition to them
This PH govt is doing the very thing that was done by the BN govt
BN harassed them, put them in jail, used riot police to beat them up
did everything at their disposal to silence and muzzle up dissent
We do not want ISA, Sosma.
We do not want police to have arbitrary powers of arrest
We do not want anyone else to get a black eye from beatings. Enough!.
Those draconian days must forever be consigned to where we consigned Najib!
Take those draconian laws and lock them up (instead)
to never darken the civil liberties, freedom of a democratic Malaysia
as was promised by the same Pakatan Harapan leaders . .
Do not do the same thing that BN used to do to you
My Comments :
Do not do the same thing that BN used to do to you?? Hmm..lets see.
