TikTok removed 325 videos after complaints by MCMC

PARLIAMENT | There were 325 TikTok videos that got removed as a result of complaints by the Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the MCMC filed 346 takedown requests with TikTok between 2020 and January this year.

He said 23 investigation papers were opened over TikTok contents by applying Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 in the same time period.

"Two cases involved the issuance of warning letters while another 21 are still being investigated," he said.

Fahmi said this in a written reply to Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden (PN - Alor Setar) who asked for the number of TikTok accounts that were "disekat" (blocked) and the reasons for doing so.

The minister explained the government can only act against TikTok content by filing takedown requests through MCMC for content that violates the platform's rules.

"Deactivating or closing accounts, in most cases, only happens when a user repeatedly violates (TikTok's) community guidelines," he said. - Mkini
