PETALING JAYA: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani is expected to step down to make way for new leadership in the police force this week - about four months before the end of his two-year contract on Oct 3.
It is unknown why Acryl Sani is leaving the force earlier but sources revealed that preparations were underway for the handover-of-duties and "beating-of-retreat" ceremonies which are expected to take place at the Police Training Centre on Jalan Semarak on Friday (June 23).
When contacted on Sunday (June 18) and asked if it was true he was making early exit from the force, Acryl Sani only said, "There will be an official announcement soon".
Acryl Sani was appointed 13th IGP replacing Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador in 2021.
In the same year, he was due for mandatory retirement when he turned 60 but the Home Ministry decided to extend his contract by two years. - Star
