PETALING JAYA: Police arrested a 13-year-old boy for driving a car without a licence and going against the flow of traffic in Chukai, Terengganu, yesterday.
Four of his friends who were in the car with him were also detained, Sinar Harian reported.
According to Kemaman police chief Hanyan Ramlan, a white Proton Saga was seen going against traffic in Taman Banggol Indah and the driver had attempted to evade the authorities.
He said the incident occurred when police were conducting the Op Lancar in the area around 4pm yesterday.
“Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver ignored the instructions to stop and continued accelerating to escape,” he was quoted as saying.
Hanyan said police gave chase and managed to catch up to the car a few times and directed the driver to stop but the orders were ignored.
“After a 10km chase, the car eventually stopped outside a self-service laundromat and the suspects were apprehended,” he said, according to Sinar Harian.
He said the teenager along with four of his friends, all aged between 13 and 16, were taken to the Kemaman district police headquarters (IPD) for further investigation for reckless or dangerous driving. - FMT
