Gerakan has officially apologised over a disparaging comment aimed at civil servants made by one of its grassroots leader.
At a press conference today, Gerakan secretary-general Mah Kah Keong said the party does not agree with the comments made by its Sungai Pinang branch spokesperson Mok Kok On.
At one point, Mah (above) bowed with hands clasped together in a prayer-like position as a form of apology.
"I apologise to all Malaysians, especially the civil service... I also apologise to our allies in Perikatan Nasional (PN) - Bersatu and PAS.
"They were also criticised for (Mok's) statement," said Mah.
Disciplinary board
Mok came under fire from DAP after he posted a message on Facebook expressing concerns about the civil service.
"Civil servants are a burden to the country. Additionally, our foreign debts are mounting while our reserves are dwindling. Anwar's government must view this fact with clarity," wrote Mok. The message has since been deleted.
Mah said Mok had been given a warning and will now have to face the party's disciplinary board.
He said Gerakan wanted to address the issue to prevent Mok's comments from being portrayed as the PN's position.
When asked how Gerakan can prevent this issue from recurring, Mah said he hoped that his press conference would serve as a reminder to other party members. - Mkini
