Get Zahid to boot us out of BN if we’re a liability, MIC info chief tells Lokman

PETALING JAYA: Lokman Adam should get Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to come up with a resolution to boot MIC out of the coalition if the former finds MIC to be a burden, says R Thinalan.

The MIC information chief issued the challenge following a recent comment made by Lokman, an Umno Supreme Council member, during an interview with Malaysia Gazette.

In the report, he labelled both MIC and MCA as liabilities for BN for their supposed continuous failure to win non-Malay votes for the coalition.

He also alleged that MCA president Wee Ka Siong and MIC deputy president M Saravanan had “betrayed” BN by signing statutory declarations to back Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin to become the prime minister after the 2022 general elections.

In a statement, Thinalan also lambasted Lokman for the “rude and factually incorrect” comments made against the party, going on to stress its loyalty to the coalition.

“We stood firm with Umno, MCA and other BN component parties through thick and thin and did not hop around like Lokman,” he said in reference to the Umno leader who was previously with PKR.

“Aren’t MIC and MCA still with BN? Did we seek positions in exchange for maintaining our support for BN?

“MIC did not accept even one position (in the unity government).

“But Umno, which took government positions and GLC (chairmanships), wants to point its finger at other component parties?”

Thinalan also said MIC has given “everything” to BN despite actions by Umno that offended the Indian community, to the point that the party was branded “Umno’s slave”.

He added that the BN lynchpin had never attempted to rectify this perception until Najib Razak became the prime minister in 2009.

He also rubbished Lokman’s comments that MIC did not contribute to BN’s election victories, citing its success in winning three state seats in both the Melaka and Johor state elections in 2021 and 2022 respectively. - FMT
