PAS’ Harakah Daily has retracted its report claiming that a former DAP member, who had joined the Islamist party, was purportedly serving as Lim Guan Eng's special adviser.
It also apologised to DAP and Lim after the latter’s political secretary Wong Hon Wai said that the former member, Mohamed Razali Abd Rahman, had never held this position or any of the other positions reported in the same article.
“The Harakah Daily editorial team has been informed that the acknowledgement and position stated and listed for Razali in the report were not true.
“The editorial team only relied on existing records and did not update the validity of the information regarding his positions, as conveyed by DAP in 2016,” Harakah Daily said in a statement on its website yesterday.
Yesterday, Wong urged the portal to retract the article and apologise to Lim within 48 hours, warning of potential legal action if it fails to do so.
On June 23, an article was published claiming that Razali had served as a special adviser to Lim, the DAP national chairperson.
The article further asserted that Razali had previously held positions such as Penang DAP Youth vice-chief, special officer to Jelutong MP RSN Rayer, DAP strategist, DAP publicity secretary, and Jelutong DAP chief.
Razali initially joined DAP in 2008 but was expelled in 2011 when he accused the party of conspiring to establish a "Christian plot" in Putrajaya.
In 2016, he gained attention again by alleging that DAP had received support and funding from Israel.
At that time, DAP refuted the claim and stated that Razali had never held any positions within the party. - Mkini
