I’d be stupid to leave Umno - Tajuddin

Veteran politician Tajuddin Abdul Rahman said he will not leave Umno and will be the last person to do so.

Tajuddin is currently serving a six-year suspension.

“I am loyal to Umno. Umno has contributed a lot to me, and I have contributed a lot to Umno.

“Why should I leave? It would be foolish for me to leave Umno.

“Even if I’m the last person remaining, I will not leave Umno," he told reporters at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre this evening.

He said this when asked if he was one of the Umno leaders rumoured to be leaving the party.

The former three-term Pasir Salak MP said he had previously rejected an offer from Perikatan Nasional to contest in the constituency during the 15th general election.

“I was offered to be a candidate. If I had accepted to be a PN candidate, I would be the MP for Pasir Salak,” said Tajuddin, who was suspended from Umno last October for openly criticising the party.

From keris to state polls battleground

Meanwhile, Tajuddin also urged Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to immediately lift his suspension to allow him to campaign for Umno in the upcoming state elections.

Tajuddin said he had appealed three times for the suspension to be lifted, but there has been no response from the party thus far.

“Don't treat me like a child, I have my dignity.

“I know the weaknesses of PAS, I know the weaknesses of Bersatu, I know all the weaknesses of PN.

“I want to fight (bersilat) in the state elections, how can I fight without a keris? Give me the keris (lift the suspension).

“If you don't give me the keris, how can I help Umno go into battle?” he asked.

However, Tajuddin said that he has never felt disappointed by the suspension of his Umno membership.

“I am never disappointed. Do not be disappointed with the grace of Allah,” he said. - Mkini
