Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has assured that he would attempt to eradicate hardcore poverty by this year.
Speaking at the “Madani Government: Educational Development and Future of Indians” programme in Shah Alam today, he acknowledged that while many Malays in the nation faced poverty, Indians were categorically the poorest race.
“From the urban to rural (areas), if there is poverty, I want this put to a stop.
“There is no Malay or Indian agenda in this, but the rakyat’s agenda. I will ensure that there is no poverty. It must be resolved in 2023,” he said.
Meanwhile, Anwar also urged Indian leaders in political parties to unite in supporting policies made by the government.
“I have been given the mandate to lead this country and I stress that I will lead Malaysia for the Malays, Chinese, Indians, Dayaks, Kadazans and the rest.
“If someone is poor, I will not look at the colour of their skin or race. That is why I call on all Indian leaders to understand it is a paradigm shift.
“I need you to give me your full support and endorsement,” he said.
