Having to be a caregiver for his bedridden mother did not stop Muhammad Syahril Saidi from scoring 11As for his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2022 examination.
Syahril, from Sekolah Menengah Ugama (SMU) Darul Iman, Beris Lalang in Bachok, Kelantan, emerged as his school’s best student when the results were announced yesterday.
Even though he has a heavy responsibility of taking care of his mother Tuan Faridah Tuan Ismail, 53, who has a nerve condition, it posed no obstacle to him to achieve excellent results, he shared.
The youngest of six siblings said he believes his success was partly due to him prioritising his mother despite having his workload cut out for him as a student.
“As a student, my daily routine was to bathe my mother before going to school and resume caregiving when I returned. While I am away at school, my sister Noor Syahida, 25, would look after my mother,” he told Bernama yesterday.
“I really did not expect to obtain all As in my subjects especially with my busyness tending to my mother. I did not even set a target to achieve all As but in the end, my mother smiled when she found out about my results,” he said.
Syahril, who lost his father when he was seven, said the secret to his success was paying full attention in class.
“Alhamdulillah, with this I scored all As in my subjects - Bahasa Melayu, English, history, mathematics, science, business, Usul Al-Din, Al-Syariah, Al-Lughah Al-Arabiah Al-Mu’asirah, Manahij Al-Ulum Al- Islamiah, and Al- Adab Wa Al-Balaghah.
“Currently, I am continuing with the Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (Stam) in Maahad Yaakubiah, Kampung Nipah, Bachok before going on to do a degree after completing my Stam,” said Syahril, who aspires to become an Arabic language lecturer.
Earlier, a video went viral on TikTok showing Syahril receiving his SPM results at home from several teachers who brought his results to him as he was taking care of his mother.
Commenting on the video which now has hit more than two million views, Syahril denied what some people are saying about his mother having cancer.
He urged the public not to circulate the video and photographs of his mother as she is not in a presentable condition.
