Tajuddin blames Ahmad Maslan for Umno's 'failure'

Former Umno supreme council member Tajuddin Abdul Rahman has blamed Ahmad Maslan for the party's failure in the 15th general election.

The former Pasir Salak MP, who was suspended from Umno last year for six years, today paid a surprise visit to the 2023 Umno general assembly at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL).

According to him, Ahmad, as the former Umno secretary-general, failed to accord the right advice to party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, which purportedly put the latter in a vulnerable position.

“Ahmad is useless. He's a young boy. I'm older than him. He loves publicity. Every day he wants to talk. He became the failed Umno secretary-general with all kinds of problems.

“He failed as a secretary-general, he didn't become a proper adviser to the president. Zahid told us that these leaders have many advisers, but some are (useless).

“Some are good, some are not. We need to listen to the grassroots, not just the people around who flatter like (Ahmad),” he told reporters at Riverside Cafe & Restaurant, Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre.

He also sarcastically criticised the current secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki for having similar signs of weakness as Ahmad.

“We need to observe the current secretary-general first. But, he has signs similar to the previous secretary (Ahmad), more or less the same,” he said.

Earlier, Tajuddin said he attended the Umno general assembly on his own accord but did not enter Dewan Merdeka to participate in debates.

“The president and secretary said leaders who have been suspended can attend. But they didn't say we could enter the hall,” he said.

Malay Proclamation

In another development, Tajuddin said the Malay Proclamation initiative led by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad is not something new.

“He (Mahathir) is late. I came before him. In 2018, I started the initiative for Muslim unity, gathering all Malays.

“I gathered all the Malays in Pasir Salak, totalling more than 50,000 people. In fact, (PAS president) Abdul Hadi Awang came to my house, stood on the stage, and gave a speech to the crowd.

“Do you think Mahathir is smart? He rose to power because we lifted him up,” he said.

However, Tajuddin said that the Malay unity has fragmented because it was not well taken care of by leaders from Umno and PAS.

“Malay unity was a blessing from God. Umno and PAS leaders did not take care of it.

“A joint committee between Umno and PAS was formed by Zahid to manage Muafakat Nasional and the charter was signed. Aunties were crying tears of joy.

“But it's very sad to see what has happened now. The Malays are divided,” he said. - Mkini
