PETALING JAYA: Former law minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has been sworn in as president of the Dewan Negara.
The former law minister was sworn in just after 10am today before a full sitting of the upper house, which included Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. He was nominated for the post by the government.
Meanwhile, Umno’s former Pulai MP Nur Jazlan Mohamed was elected as the deputy speaker, defeating senator Razali Idris of Bersatu. Nur Jazlan received 43 votes to Razali’s 11, while eight senators were absent.
Nur Jazlan was nominated by the government while Razali was nominated by senator Dominic Lau.
Wan Junaidi and Nur Jazlan were sworn in as senators earlier.
