There are "no problems" with uniforms worn by nurses in Malaysia, said Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa.
"There are ethics that nurses adhere to when it comes to their uniforms and it’s clear to me there is no problem," she said in Johor Bahru today, according to The Star.
She said this when asked to comment on Kuantan MP Wan Razali Wan Nor's complaint in the Dewan Rakyat over the "tight uniforms” worn by Malaysian nurses.
According to Wan Razali, the uniforms allowed women's body shapes to be visible and were not syariah-compliant.
Zaliha said the Health Ministry was more concerned about whether the public was receiving the best health services possible.
"We have just tabled the Health White Paper and should be focusing on what is important, which is providing the best health services to the people.
"For now, I do not see the uniform as an issue," she reiterated.
Several professional groups have criticised Wan Razali for raising a ruckus, responding that the uniforms were meant for comfort and function.
Wan Razali also incurred the wrath of famous dangdut singer Baby Shima - who wrote disparaging remarks about the MP two days in a row. - Mkini
