Heated exchange between CID director, Klang MP at police town hall

 

A heated argument ensued at a police town hall session in Klang today when Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation director Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain got head-to-head with Klang MP V Ganabatirau about town planning issues.

The afternoon incident occurred when the senior cop delivered strong “advice” to politicians and people's representatives to also consider security concerns when they approve any development project.

"Town planning has never considered the security factor for the local community.

"So, this goes back to the YBs (Yang Berhormat/people's representatives) and council members... When you approve any project," Shuhaily said.

The police commissioner was responding to a question from a Seri Andalas resident, who was frustrated over rampant house break-in cases in the area.

Shuhaily's remarks, however, did not sit well with Ganabatirau who immediately interrupted to rebut the officer's notion.

"Every MP or Adun (state assembly member) cannot get involved in any plan (for development projects), while Ahli Majlis (members of local councils) can only attend (meetings).

"Only the respective local council president, its licensing director and planning director, and the district officers (are the ones who) should be blamed," said the DAP representative in a raised tone.

To this, Shuhaily replied by asking Ganabatirau a rhetorical question: "Now I want to ask you, who are the ones who appointed the YDPs (council presidents)?"

The MP then said that he was not involved in such appointment decisions, but instead, it was decided by "pusat" (headquarters).

‘Focus on legislating laws’

Meanwhile, during the session, Shuhaily made several other suggestions directed to Ganabatirau and several other politicians present, including Kapar MP Halimah Ali and Port Klang Adun Azmizam Zaman Huri.

The senior cop said the elected representatives must legislate laws that can benefit the rakyat, including by placing ketum (under the Dangerous Drugs Act instead of Poisons Act.

Currently, he said, ketum sellers would only be fined when they are caught.

Shuhaily also suggested that the country bans all motorcycle modification accessories to curb 'rempit' activities. - Mkini
