A martial arts athlete who was set to represent Terengganu at the upcoming Malaysian Games (Sukma) reportedly died after collapsing while participating in a competition at the Coral Height Park Community Hall in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan yesterday.
Harian Metro reported that 21-year-old Wan Muhammad Haikal Wan Hussin lost consciousness after being hit by an opponent's kick and was confirmed dead at 1.20 this morning after being treated at Tuanku Jaafar Hospital (HTJ).
The deceased's eldest sister, Wan Nor Haslinda said the family was informed about the incident at 5.30pm yesterday.
"The coach contacted the father and informed him that the deceased had to be rushed to the hospital because he lost consciousness after being kicked by the opponent.
"But I don't know more about how the incident happened and at about 2.30 in the morning, we were informed that he had died. I am not sure of the exact time," she said.
According to Wan Nor Haslinda, the deceased was the fourth of five siblings and has been in Seremban for Pre Sukma training since last Friday.
She said the family was awaiting the post-mortem to be completed and to claim the body of the deceased at HTJ. - Mkini
