DAP deputy secretary-general says 'flexibility' should be allowed for this if red lines are crossed.
In a statement, Ramkarpal said “some flexibility” should be allowed if red lines are crossed, such as Umno’s insistence on seeking a pardon for former prime minister Najib Razak.
“Whether or not this is labelled as an ‘exit clause’, it is certainly in the best interests of the party,” he added.
He said there might be a false impression that a vote to remain in government for the rest of the parliamentary term equals a vote to remain no matter what, even if future events prove detrimental to the party’s interests.
“I am of the view that it should be made clear that delegates are at liberty to revisit their decision to remain in the government (if they choose to do so this Sunday) if there are compelling reasons in the future.”
DAP delegates will decide this weekend whether the party should remain in or withdraw from government posts for the remainder of the parliamentary term.
Perak DAP on Wednesday unanimously backed remaining in the unity government to allow it to deliver on its election promises.
Yesterday, the party’s former Bangi MP Ong Kian Ming listed three possible reasons for delegates to vote to remain in the Cabinet, including ensuring the passage of the 2027 budget in October.
He said the only good reason for delegates to vote for DAP leaders to resign from the Cabinet would be to force Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s hand to deliver at least some political reforms before the next general election. - FMT
