Sarawak premier Abang Johari Openg says this will enable government data to be stored and managed through its own infrastructure before being utilised for various development purposes.

He said the sovereign data concept would enable government data to be stored and managed through its own infrastructure before being utilised for various development purposes.
“The platform brings together various data that can be used for planning purposes, including the development of smart cities, with information on residential areas, business districts, road networks, connectivity within the city and public transport.
“With this data, we can develop projects faster and accelerate efforts to find solutions based on the data we have collected on one platform,” he said at the launch of the Sarawak Sovereign AI Infrastructure Platform here today.
Abang Johari said not all data could be shared as there was a distinction between strategic data that could be shared and security-related data that needed to be protected.
“Access to certain data can be given to external parties, including investors interested in joint ventures with Sarawak.
“For example, if an investor wants to develop a biodiversity-related manufacturing plant, they can obtain information on the location, land area and relevant data through the platform before submitting an application to the government.”
To support the initiative, Abang Johari said Sarawak aimed to develop its own satellite constellation by 2030 to strengthen its capability to obtain data and signals.
He said the constellation would comprise at least six satellites that would be interconnected, enabling data to be obtained almost continuously.
“With this constellation, we can obtain data almost all the time, 24 hours a day,” he said. - FMT
