Takiyuddin: Join PAS, get in line to heaven; Tuan Ibrahim backs MACC's halt on orange lockup attire

• Those who join PAS and work towards strengthening Islam’s influence will have a chance to be accepted into heaven upon their deaths, said the party’s secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan.

  “Joining PAS, accepting Islam… God willing, we can enter paradise when we die later,” the Kota Bharu MP said.

  In his speech at a ceramah event in Kota Bharu last night, Takiyuddin also claimed that “most” Islamic religious teachers and ulama scholars “are on PAS’ side”.

• PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has welcomed the MACC’s decision to suspend the use of its orange clothing for suspects brought to court for remand proceedings.

  Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the PAS Muktamar yesterday, Tuan Ibrahim said the move was positive as those involved had only been brought to court to seek a remand extension and had not been charged with any offence.

  He said making suspects wear the clothing and handcuffs could give the impression that they were already guilty or being taken to prison.

  Yesterday, the Prime Minister’s Office said those being remanded will no longer need to wear the MACC’s orange lock-up jumpsuit.

  In an immediate response, MACC chief commissioner Abdul Halim Aman said in a statement that the commission had suspended the use of the attire immediately.

Sakyamuni Caves Monastery 

• The stay of execution application filed by the occupants of Sakyamuni Caves Monastery to prevent Associated Pan Malaysia Cement (APMC) from taking possession of the land on which the monastery sits will be heard on Sept 9.

  The monastery’s lawyer, Gokul Radhakrishnan, told Malaysiakini that the application was filed after APMC sought a writ of possession to evict the occupants.

  He stressed, however, that the Sept 9 hearing is separate from the monastery’s appeal against the court’s decision to strike out its civil suit against APMC.

  Instead, the hearing will determine whether enforcement of the writ should be stayed while the monastery pursues its appeal.

  The civil suit, filed by the monastery and a monk against APMC, was struck out on Sept 2 after the court allowed APMC’s application to strike out the claims, with costs. The monastery is appealing the decision. - Mkini
