The Home Ministry has renewed the publication permit of "Harakah", the official organ of PAS, on condition that the newspaper is sold only at the party's headquarters and offices. The permit had expired on July 7.
The secretary of the ministry's Publications Control and Quranic Text Division, Zaitun Ab Samad, said today the ministry was satisfied with the cooperation, explanation and pledge by the Harakah management to adhere to the conditions of the permit as well as the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984.
She said the Harakah management had given serious attention to the show-cause letter issued by the ministry and had cooperated well with the division.
Harakah board of directors chairman Mustafa Ali and managing director Kamarudin Jaafar met with the ministry secretary-general Mahmood Adam on July 12 to give their explanation, she said.
Zaitun said Harakah replied to the show-cause letter on July 13 with a pledge to adhere to the conditions of the permit, such as printing the words "Untuk Ahli Sahaja" (for members only) on the newspaper and sending to the ministry eight copies of every edition once it was printed.
"The ministry will constantly monitor the Harakah publication to ensure compliance," she said.
