KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 15 — Tiny Kelantan party Angkatan Keadilan Insan Malaysia (Akim) today changed its name to Parti Kesejahteraan Insan TanahAir (Kita) and promptly elected Datuk Zaid Ibrahim as president.
The party’s annual general meeting is in progress at Tropicana Golf and Country Club, near Zaid’s residence. It is the party’s first meeting outside Kelantan.
Zaid quit PKR last month after criticising the party’s first-ever direct elections. He was formerly the de facto law minister in Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s Cabinet in March 2008 but resigned in protest over the use of the Internal Security Act (ISA) on a politician, journalist and blogger.
The Kelantanese politician turned his legal practice into the country’s largest partnership, Zaid Ibrahim and Co., before focusing on politics.
