Anwar denies WikiLeaks: All eyes on "opportunist" label, did Najib try to gain from rail land deal?

The heat is on - did Najib try to get something for himself
Wong Choon Mei, Malaysia Chronicle

Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim has denied a foreign news report that Singapore intelligence accused him of having walked into a sodomy trap set up his political enemies, blaming the Malaysian special branch for the latest plot to smear his credibility ahead of snap general elections next year.

“Source? Polis SB Msia. Bukti tak ada (Who is the source? Malaysian police special branch. There is no proof whatsoever)” Anwar was quoted as responding on Twitter by the Malaysian Insider on Sunday.

Yet despite this denial, the BN-friendly online portal deliberately screamed in its headline that Anwar had kept silent on the damning accusations published in The Sydney Morning Herald.

“This is what we can expect from the BN media in the next few weeks. They need to justify why Najib wants to lock up Anwar even though it is clear these charges are fabricated,” PKR information chief Latheefa Koya told Malaysia Chronicle.

“Basically how WikiLeaks work especially this particular batch is that hundreds of thousands of U.S. embassy cables were received. The contents are based on unfiltered and unverified information U.S. diplomats receive. In other words, the informatiuon can be deliberately wrong or deliberately planted. Even Al Jazeera or Pfizer have refuted the so-called WikiLeaks ‘dark secrets’ about them as false and intentional sabotage.”

Why opportunist, did Najib try to gain something for himself?

According to Latheefa, WikiLeaks was centred around information that went through U.S. embassies around the world. It underscores the amount of snooping U.S. diplomatic staff do and the amount of information that goes through their hands.

Did Najib, Rosmah plot the sodomy charges?
“It must be stated very clearly that this is raw information that has yet to be screened and verified and that is what is causing the WikiLeaks commotion worldwide,” said Latheefa.

Prime Minister Najib Razak has also been hit by the WikiLeaks. Apart from his alleged involvement in the murder and graft case involving Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibuu and the Scopene submarines, there was also a shock disclosure that top Singapore strategists thought poorly of him.

They labeled him an “opportunist” and allegedly said that Malaysia was going down the drain because of “incompetent politicians”. The remarks have been a major embarrassment to the Najib administration and more damagingly, speculation is now rife why the Singaporeans chose to use the term "opportunist".

“We are waiting for a response from Najib? After he bent over backwards to Singapore and kow-towed to them over the Tanjong Pagar rail land swap, Malaysians want an explanation from the Singapore government and from Najib himself why they think so badly of him," PKR vice president Tian Chua told Malaysia Chronicle.

"Why was the word “opportunist” used? Is it because he tried to negotiate something for himself in that deal or in past occasions? These are questions he must answer immediately or tarnish the country's image even more than he already has."
