PUTRAJAYA, Dec 4 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who is also Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, is expected to touch on the 1 Malaysia vision in his keynote address at the one-day Barisan Convention to be held at Wisma MCA tomorrow.
Barisan secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the concept of 1 Malaysia was important to be discussed as Malaysia had a plural society.
Speaking to reporters after launching the Parliament Putrajaya Juara Rakyat programme here today, he said other topics that would be discussed were socio-economy, security, education, religion, enhancing the government delivery system and also law and corruption.
The leaders of each of the 13 component parties, including BN deputy chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu and MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek, would also have a chance to debate the topics, he added.
Tengku Adnan said all the component parties should treat the convention as preparation for the next general election.
He said about 2,340 delegates from the component parties, friends of BN as well as NGOs were expected to attend this year's convention, themed "1 People, 1 Nation, 1 Vision."
Asked whether the convention would be held annually, he said it depended on the need.
The last BN convention was held in 2001.
The convention is expected to adopt a charter that will be handed to the prime minister.
In conjunction with the convention, Najib will attend the 1 BN Perdana dinner at Seri Perdana here tonight. — Bernama
