(Free Malaysia Today) - A Perkasa leader has dismissed Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim's argument that the “ketuanan Melayu” (Malay supremacy) concept promoted a “master and slave” relationship.
According to the hardline group's Selangor chief Abdullah Mansor, it was simply a case of the Malays having more rights than the other races in this country.
"It just says that Malays have more rights as they are enshrined in the Federal Constitution. We just want to maintain what we already have. The nation has been peaceful with the existence of this concept, why do you still want to play with fire?" he said.
Abdullah was among the 200 people who had submitted memorandums to the Sultan of Selangor, which among others, urged the ruler to ban Anwar from the state.
The gathering was organised by the Gagasan Anti-Penyelewengan Selangor (Gaps) movement.
The ketuanan Melayu debate erupted after Anwar's wife and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail called for the concept to be abandoned when adressing the party's national congress.
Following this, Perkasa Youth chief Arman Azha Abu Hanifah rained criticisms on Wan Azizah, and her newly minted deputy Azmin Ali for backing the president's speech.
Arman had labelled the duo as “political prostitutes” who were willing to do anything in order to garner non-Malay votes.
Subaequently, Perkasa women's chief Zaira Jaafar slammed Wan Azizah's description of her husband as someone who was “God-sent” for Malaysia.
Instead, she called Anwar the “devil” who had betrayed his own race and was on a mission to destroy the Malay community.
Perkasa leaders had also called on the Malay rulers to strip Anwar of his honorific titles for challenging the concept.
Meanwhile, Perkasa's Selangor chief Abdullah said both Wan Azizah and Azmin do not deserve to be leaders of the country since they rejected ketuanan Melayu.
