Tenang by-election on Jan 30

The by-election for the Tenang state seat will be held on Jan 30, with nomination day on Jan 22, the Election Commission announced Friday.

This will be 14th by-election since the 2008 general election.

The Tenang state seat fell vacant following the death of incumbent Datuk Sulaiman Taha on Dec 17.

Sulaiman, 59, a three-term assemblyman, died at the Ampang Puteri Hospital in Kuala Lumpur, where he had been warded since November due to high blood pressure and diabetes.

Tenang is one of two state seats in the Labis parliamentary constituency. The other is Bekok, held by Tan Kok Hong, also of Barisan. The MP is Chua Tee Yong, a son of MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.

Tenang has a voter population of 14,474, comprising Malays (49%), Chinese (38%) and Indians (12%).
