KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Commission of Inquiry into Teoh Beng Hock’s death will send an official letter to the Thai embassy here requesting for pathologist Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand to testify.
The commission’s chairman James Foong said the panel did not get a response from Pornthip and another expert Dr Peter Venezis whom it contacted through conventional mail and e-mail.
Pornthip’s services was engaged by the Selangor goverment, for whom Teoh had worked while Venezis was hired by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Foong said the commission’s secretary Saripuddin Kasim had only managed to contact Pornthip’s secretary by phone.
“We will not let it end there… We will write to the Thai Embassy to ask Pornthip to testify,” he said.
Previously, Pornthip caused a stir when she revealed that Teoh could have been a victim of homicide.
Meanwhile, Foong said the commission would appoint private investigators to extract data from Teoh’s mobile phone and SIM card.
The commission would also write to service provider DiGi Telecommunications to seek assistance to extract details pertaining to calls and text messages, including those which were deleted.
Apart from this, Foong said the commission had also contacted a handwriting expert in the UK for assistance in examining documents pertaining to the case.
Bar council lawyer, Chris Leong, told the commission that he had been informed by the Hong Kong police that they were willing to offer their expertise if a formal request was put forth.
“We will look into it once we sort out all the other matters,” Foong replied.
