Video: The new Klang Valley MRT route

The Klang Valley MRT company has a video presentation on the proposed Sg Buloh-Kajang line. It’s not on their web site, but here’s a hand-held capture of their video. It’s interesting, for a view of the anticipated new buildings that you see sprouting up by the side of the line (not forgetting, of course, the 100-storey mega tower).

Some initial thoughts:

  • After 40 years of neglect, Cheras is finally getting some transport attention
  • Most of the line follows the existing highways: massive disruption during construction
  • It skirts around all the main housing estates, doesn’t stop at any
  • It goes underground through the city centre from Federal Hill to Taman Maluri
  • The proposed mega project 100-storey tower will benefit from the route
  • The main interchanges are Central Market (Pasar Seni) and Maluri
  • Supposedly, you change at Pasar Seni for Putra and KTM
  • Present-day reality: get out, lug your bags, and take a hike
  • Change at Maluri (underground) for Star (above-ground). Again, take a hike. Good luck with luggage or children.

There’s also a very large map [3.4MB] showing the line overlaid on stitched-together Google satellite images of the Klang Valley.

  1. Excellent news that there will be a new line, but have the planners learned nothing about "integrated transport"?

    1. Connect with as many other train lines as possible.

    2. Make the walk between lines as short as possible.

    3. Allow one ticket to get you to your destination, regardless of line changes.

London did this over 100 years ago. Why can't Malaysia do this?
