KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 — Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has never regretted marrying Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim despite repeated allegations against the opposition de facto leader, the recent sex video being the latest.

“I have never regretted. Before Anwar, I accepted another proposal. But during solat istikharah, when Anwar asked me to be his wife, I dreamt of lots of posters that looked like election posters,” the PKR president told Sinar Harian.

“All these posters were of Anwar. For me, that was a sign from God so I picked Anwar.”

Dr Wan Azizah, who married Anwar 30 years ago, said she has never regretted the move as God promises a good man to every good woman and God never lies.

In the late 1990s, then-deputy prime minister Anwar faced charges of sodomy and abuse of power.

Three years ago, Anwar faced a second sodomy charge brought against him by a former aide. The case is ongoing.

Three days before the prosecution in Sodomy II wrapped up their case against Anwar, the veteran politician was rocked by yet another allegation — that he had sex with a prostitute.

The “Datuk T” trio comprising former Melaka chief minister Tan Sri Rahim Thamby Chik, Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah and Perkasa treasurer-general Datuk Shuib Lazim screened a video last Monday showing the alleged act to members of the media and politicians.

Anwar has denied the latest round of allegations, which he accused Umno leaders of masterminding.

Dr Wan Azizah, however, said her faith in Anwar has never faltered.

“I always remind myself to accept all of God’s challenges and to weather them with patience while praying to God for guidance and to ease the way,” she said.

“I have never allowed regret to dwell in my chest.”

Dr Wan Azizah added that she had faith in Anwar’s ability to lead as prime minister as he had good accumulated experience since he was 20.

“He has overcome many obstacles. Having defeated these obstacles, Anwar can be a good prime minister,” she said. - Malaysian Insider
