'The gist of Karpal's statement is a simple message that if you are in contempt of court you need to be prepared to face the consequences.'
Karpal rubbishes Zaid's police report
Justice Seeker: Zaid Ibrahim must be the biggest joker of the year. I presume he had the biggest chain of law firms in the country. But is it not ironic that he can't understand what Karpal Singh meant when he cautioned Zaid to refrain from committing contempt of court? Can he be so daft as to accuse Karpal of posing a serious threat to his safety?
Chandran Sukumaran: As I have mentioned before that Zaid Ibrahim was a Trojan horse. Isn't this an ample proof?
As for PM Najib Razak calling for Anwar Ibrahim's DNA, why should he volunteer to do so? The fact is, how did Anwar's DNA end up in Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan's anus? Can we trust the police? Could it have been planted?
Knowing the police and the attorney-general/judiciary, it is more likely than not that the sodomy charge is perpetrated by Umno agents. People cannot be fooled anymore. The benefit of doubt must be given to the accused.
Moreover, since this country is all so Islamic and we have a syariah court system, why can't this case be tried by the Islamic court as both Anwar and Saiful are Muslims. I smell a rat here. One more burning question that I have - is sodomy a higher crime than murder and corruption in BN-led Malaysia?
Satu Malaysian: According to my understanding the gist of Karpal's statement is a simple message that if you are in contempt of court you need to be prepared to face the consequences. I don't see the part in the statement which is considered life threatening. Maybe Zaid can elaborate.
But no fear, Dato. The police will get busy because the report is against an opposition member. If you ask them why are they wasting their time, they will tell you, "minta maaf Encik, tapi ini arahan dari atas."
Jawana: Zaid is right in making the police report. Nobody should be above the law including Karpal Singh or Anwar Ibrahim. I support Zaid 120 percent and more. Pakatan Rakyat should not govern Malaysia and risk the country of being bankrupt faster than expected.
Malaysian Born: Well, that was really disappointing. Zaid for all his legal background and reputation for clear thinking suddenly is as illogical and irrational as Ibrahim Ali and his cohorts.
I read and re-read Karpal's statement to see if there was any possible way to interpret it as a threat beyond of the obvious implications of committing contempt and there are literally none. This is clearly a game being played by Zaid.
Let's see his next step, and I hope there is one. Otherwise, the obvious inference is that he is out of strategies and is now just plain desperate. It's a big fall from grace - from village hero to village idiot.
Quigonbond: Up to a fortnight ago, I actually entertained the possibility that PKR screwed up by insisting on many seats in Sarawak, that perhaps there's something rotten within for so many people to leave PKR, and perhaps DSAI (Anwar Ibrahim) was really a bad person after all.
Then, I see Kita saying they will contest in Selangor, etc. I see Zaid asking DSAI to volunteer his DNA, and for Kita to morally support Snap. It now clicks. Kita is a spoiler and a Trojan horse; it's leader vindictive because he got very close to deputy presidency but didn't win it, and now he's going all out to waste Malaysians' opportunity to get a fresh start by booting out BN so that he can get even.
You only need to contrast Kita with MCLM (Malaysian Civil Liberties Movement) to see who's serious about removing BN from power. MCLM would not have condoned three-cornered fights. I say, PKR, you're right gunning it big in Sarawak. Just ignore Kita and Snap.
P Dev Anand Pillai: It is plain and simple - when a matter is being litigated in court, no comments about it can be made public. It is a basic law of contempt. Besides that, it only goes to show the chorus line that Zaid has been singing ever since he became the Kita president, which is a tune that is all too familiar to the BN's barnyard call to all the animals in the barn.
Karpal has put it very plain and it would take a very dumb police to waste his or her time investigating reports like this instead of looking into reports of corruption, rape, murder and baby dumping.
The entire world is slowly seeing the fact that you can't cage the minds of the masses anymore, that is what the Internet has brought to us, so perhaps the regime and its foot soldiers should note that the people are not to be taken for fools anymore.
Proarte: I have always wondered how people who claim to be reformists and speak the language of democracy, equality and decency can so easily betray these espoused values.
The answer probably is that they never had any in the first place. How could someone like Zaid who sees himself as a 'reformist' be in Umno for 30 years? In retrospect, the fact that Zaid left Umno so late in the day and in a self-righteous fanfare was suspicious.
Commentators like myself, I am ashamed to say, were taken in, as I was with Anwar Ibrahim in the past. It seems to me that no person with any decency could be part of Umno and remain there for any length of time. - Malaysiakini
