Stop lying about Yayasan Selangor, Zuraida tells Khir Toyo

PKR Women's Chief Zuraida Kamaruddin has rejected the explanation offered by former Selangor Mentri Besar Khir Toyo that when he left office, state education fund Yayasan Selangor had RM80 million in cash surplus.

"The response that I received from Dr. Khir Toyo, former Selangor Menteri Besar, in regards to the RM594 mio missing from Yayasan Selangor was clouded by so much dishonesty and inconsistencies that it is impossible to recognize the truth if any from the lies," Zuraida, who is also Ampang MP, said in a statement.

She pointed out that Yayasan Selangor has itself lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission because of the fraud that occurred in the organization during the time that Khir was the Menteri Besar for Selangor.

Furthermore, based on the audited financial statement, the cash surplus was only RM 45 million and not 80 million.

"If Khir continues to claim that the Yayasan had RM80 million, then he must also be able to explain the shortfall. Or hire someone who can recalculate his figures for him," said Zuraida.

She urged the MACC not to delay any further and to immediately begin investigations.

Huge amounts involved

Last week, the PKR women's wing had lodged a report with the anti-corruption agency alleging that RM594 million and 50 condominium units had gone 'missing' from Yayasan between 1991 and 2008. They identified some 15 projects and 10 companies as the cause of the leakages.

One of the 'dubious' projects involved the development of condominiums and commercial buildings on 12.8ha of land in Jalan Lapangan Terbang Subang in 2004, where Yayasan Selangor was supposed to receive RM308mil but instead only got RM181mil from the developer.

Another was the development of an office and condominium block in Jalan Raja Muda, Kuala Lumpur, where Yayasan was to get RM288mil from the developer but only received RM88mil for the 20-storey building.

"We call on the MACC to conduct investigations immediately and diligently. The sum of money which has been plundered and stolen by UMNO and its cronies would have been a very large amount. This is money that is owed to the people. Yayasan Selangor must be compensated and the rights of the rakyat must be protected," said the Wanita chief.

Khir, who is already being charged for knowingly buying a bungalow and two plots of land at a RM3 million discount from Ditamas Sdn Bhd, has refuted Zuraida's claims.

“As far as I'm concerned, I left Yayasan Selangor with RM80mil cash surplus and now there is a deficit,” Khir told reporters.
