It's sabotage, Penang lawmaker tells cops

A state assemblyperson in Penang has lodged a police report on “subversive” material that allege that he is involved in a Bersih 2.0 campaign.

NONEPKR's Bukit Tengah representative Ong Chin Wen lodged the report at 1pm at the Seberang Perai Tengah district police headquarters today.

In his report, Ong claimed that a banner announcing a Bersih 2.0 programme in his service centre in Bukit Tengah had been found in the city, while leaflets on this were found at Juru camp and village.

The leaflet carries the words: 'Briefing on Bersih at Ong Chin Wen's Service Centre at No. 22 Tingkat Bukit Minyak 9, Taman Bukit Minyak 14000, Telephone 04-5083977 will be held on Jul 6, 7pm'.

It also states that the Ong will give out free Bersih 2.0 T-shirts and RM100 in cash plus food and drinks to those attending.

"These leaflets were sent to residents and villagers in Bukit Tengah," he told reporters at the police station. We have nothing to do with it.

“My personal assistant Amuzudin Ahmat informed me about it this morning. I consider this to be sabotage and a baseless accusation. I hope the police will investigate this thoroughly."

It is learnt that the police took away the banner about 10.30am, and are in the process of investigating the matter.

Ong included in his report the contents of a text-message being circulated since this morning, alleging that six Pakatan Rakyat and NGO leaders will attend the so-called briefing. It listed their home addresses.

Amizuddin, a former Seberang Perai municipal councillor, described this is as a "dirty and dangerous way to topple the assemblyperson and his party in Bukit Tengah". - Malaysiakini
