MIC delegates call for repeat of MyDaftar campaign

Delegates at the 65th Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) general assembly, which opened at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre here today, urged the government to arrange a second edition of the National MyDaftar campaign.

"There are thousands of people out there still without proper identity documents. Thus, a second edition of the MyDaftar campaign can be beneficial to more Indians," L Chandran, a delegate from Selangor said when debating the party's annual report.

The first campaign held nationwide from February 19-26 was hailed as a very successful programme with nearly 15,000 people applying for citizenship identity documentation.

Up to end of April, 1,800 cases have been solved successfully.

R.Shanmugasundaram, delegate from Kedah, said certain applications during the first campaign were turned down and some people were even unaware of the mass registration process.

"For all of them, it would be a second chance if another MyDafter takes place," he said.

The meeting is scheduled to be officially opened by Prime Minister Najib Razak in the afternoon.
