KUALA LUMPUR - Westports Malaysia Chief Executive Officer Ruben Emir Gnanalingam was named "Emerging CEO of the Year" at the Global Leadership Awards 2011, held recently.
The "Emerging CEO of the Year" was awarded to a Chief Executive Officer who guided a company through a difficult period, continued with improvements, brought about an innovative change in the market, improved services offered to customers and ensured the welfare and performance of employees.
Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim presented Ruben the award, organised by The Leaders Magazine, Westports Malaysia said in a statement today.
Ruben attributed the award to all employees at Westports who had given their very best to the success of the port.
"I am very thankful that our people at Westports share common goals and thrive in a culture where everyone desires the organisation to excel," he said, adding that, selecting the right people was a key element at Westports, while retaining them was just as important.
His pertinent analogy to striking an optimal balance between keeping customers happy and ensuring employee satisfaction was "Customer is King and our staff, the Queen".
