Errant cop transferred

The policeman who failed to respond to a distress call made by a journalist has been moved to another department.

PETALING JAYA: The policeman who failed to respond to a distress call made by a journalist who was pursued by an axe-wielding burglar has been transferred.

Ampang Jaya police chief ACP Amiruddin Jamaluddin said the transfer took place immediately after the journalist lodged a complaint against the policeman last month.

“He has been transferred out pending the completion of investigation against him. He is now in a division where he won’t be having any contact with the public,” he added.

On June 13, Teoh El Sen, a journalist from FMT, lodged a complaint against Lance Corporal Murni Ramli (photo), of the Pandan Perdana police station, for dismissing Teoh’s report over a burglary that took place in Ampang.

Teoh and his girlfriend were dropping off the latter’s teenage cousin at his residence in Pandan Perdana earlier that day when they witnessed a burglary taking place.

As the teenager locked himself in a room for safety, the burglar chased the couple with an axe in hand. The duo then ran to the street and got into a taxi.

Noticing that the burglar was still pursuing them, Teoh contacted the Pandan Perdana police station for help but was rudely dismissed by Murni who told Teoh to call another number for assistance.

On arriving at the police station, Murni, who was stationed there, also derided Teoh despite the latter’s attempt to point out the officer’s improper behavior.

Meanwhile, Amiruddin also assured that the police would take action against Murni once investigation is completed.

“Don’t worry. We will take action against him based on the severity of his offence,” he said.
