Muhyiddin to woo Indonesian media

Muhyiddin to woo Indonesian media

SURABAYA - Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will meet editors from Jawa Pos Group, young entrepreneurs and corporate figures in a mission to woo the Indonesian media and young investors to Malaysia.

During his three-day visit today, the Deputy Prime Minister is expected to meet 20 editors from Jawa Pos National Network, the biggest newspaper group in Indonesia with more than 150 regional and national newspapers.

The Jawa Pos, based in Surabaya, boasts the highest circulation with 1.4 million copies sold daily.

It also publishes magazines and is involved in television broadcasting.

Muhyiddin will also meet the governor of East Java to discuss areas of interest, especially in relation to economic cooperation.

Surabaya is a booming port city following recent growth in foreign industries and the completion of the Suramadu Bridge linking Surabaya and Madura.

The city is currently focusing on the construction of high-rise buildings, including apartments and hotels to attract foreign investments.

The administrative and industrial capital of East Java had last year recorded an economic growth of 8%, higher than the national average of 6%.

Muhyiddin will also meet Malaysian student leaders in Surabaya and later attend the Asean+3 Education Ministers Meeting and East Asia summit Education Ministers Meeting in Bali.
